The United States Department of Labor has awarded the NOVA Workforce Board a $3.2 million National Dislocated Worker Grant, according to a Feb. 1 press release.

The federal grant to the Sunnyvale-based workforce development nonprofit could help some 900 laid off tech workers get back on their feet.

NOVA serves seven cities in Santa Clara, including Cupertino, Sunnyvale and Palo Alto, as well as all of San Mateo County, according the company's website.

The release states that the grant will be used to provide reemployment and training services to around 920 workers, primarily from the tech sector, who lost their jobs due to layoffs and closures at 70 companies in the area.

Services funded by the grant will include "ongoing personalized career advising, topical workshops, interactive labs, and occupationally relevant training" as well as paid on-the-job training opportunities.
