Access Training to Advance Your Career

Classroom Training

State Eligible Training Provider List (ETPL)

We offer a limited number of training scholarships based on available funding. Your NOVAworks welcome email will indicate if you qualify.

If you'd like to learn more and explore available training, attend the Training Scholarship Process workshop.

To find eligible schools and training programs, use the California Eligible Training Provider List (ETPL).
  1. Click on More Career Services.
  2. Under Education Services, select one of the following:
    • Training Providers and Schools – Search by school name.
    • Training and Education Programs – Search by keyword (e.g., accounting).

Please note that not all schools on the list have a contract with NOVAworks. Speak with a training advisor to find out which programs are eligible for funding and best suited to your needs.

California Training Benefits (CTB)

Are you currently receiving Unemployment Insurance benefits?
You must contact California EDD to express your interest in training within the first 16 weeks of your claim. This step is required before enrolling in a training program.
Express Your Interest in California Training Benefits

The California Training Benefits (CTB) program allows eligible California Unemployment Insurance (UI) claimants who lack competitive job skills to receive their UI benefits while attending an approved training program. CTB does not pay for the training.

By Phone:

  1. Contact UI about your interest in CTB by calling 1-800-300-5616.

Online:

  1. Log in to your account. Make sure that you have fully registered by providing your 10-digit Customer Account Number provided to you in a letter from EDD. If you have not done this, you will need to call EDD to express your interest.
  2. Select the “Contact EDD” tab from the main menu at the top of the UI Online home page.
  3. In the “General Information” section of the “Contact Us” page, select a category and then a topic.
    • Category = School or Training
    • Topic = California Training Benefits (CTB)
  4. Submit your question. “I am writing to express my interest in California Training Benefits. Please note this on my claim.”
  5. Receive confirmation e-mail message.
