Classroom Training

NOVA offers a wide variety of training programs in various sectors such as high-tech, healthcare, manufacturing, biotechnology, financial services and energy. We do not have a list of training programs. Instead, we ask that you determine the training needed based on the skills required for a particular occupation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need to fill out the Career Exploration Guide (CEG)?

Whether you are considering training or not, an effective job search requires you know what skills and background are needed for the job, and what the current labor market demand is for those skills. Training involves a significant commitment of your time and resources, so it is important you have good information so you can get back to work in the least amount of time. The Career Exploration Guide (CEG) is a tool to help you make an informed decision about pursuing a specific occupation and to determine if you need additional skills. The CEG will help you ask:
    • What skills are needed in the current job market?
    • Is this occupation right for me?
    • Are employers hiring for this occupation?
    • Do I have the skills and background to make me a good fit?

Attend NOVA's Career Exploration Workshop to receive the five-page Career Exploration Guide.

How much will NOVA pay toward my training?

NOVA can pay up to $6000 for a training program that provides the skills identified and supported by the research in your Career Exploration Guide. The training funding can be applied to only one school.

What schools can I select for my training?

Our training funding comes from the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). WIA regulations require that schools must have their training programs listed on the statewide Eligible Training Provider List (ETPL). Additionally, a contract between the training vendor and NOVA must be in place. Your training advisor will help you identify qualified schools.
